  1. Welcome to Mr. Aaron Dukes’Classroom Let’s Review Classroom Guidelines Procedures

  2. Where Should I Sit ? • You may sit wherever you’d like…TODAY • Please sit in that seat, until you are MANDATED, not asked, to move. • In the beginning of the year this procedure aids me in learning your names • I will instruct you when and if seating procedures will change

  3. Who Am I? • I taught at Brewbaker Junior from 2007-2009 • Johnnie R. Carr Middle 2009-2011 • Jefferson Davis High 2011-present

  4. What Will I Be Doing This Year? • DBQ’S • Historical writing • Projects • Current Events

  5. How Will I Be Graded? • Student’s grades will be based on their performance on tests, quizzes, unit assignments, projects, and daily class participation. Grades will be calculated as follows: • Major 65% (tests, projects, unit assignments) • Minor 35% (open book quizzes, news quiz, daily work)

  6. How Will I Be Graded ? Grading Scale 90-100 A 80-89B 70-79 C 60-69 D 0-59F

  7. Classroom Guidelines

  8. Guideline # 1 • Be in your seat and working on the assigned bell work when the tardy bell rings.

  9. Guideline #2 • Bring ALL books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave

  10. Guideline # 3 • Follow directions the first time they are given.

  11. Guideline #4 • Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity.

  12. Guideline #5 • Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the JDHS and Montgomery Public Schools handbooks.

  13. Following Guidelines will result in ……. • Verbal Acknowledgement • A stress free learning environment • A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere

  14. Not Following Guidelines will result in……. • 1st - Warning and documentation • 2nd - Action Plan , Parental Contact, after school detention • 3rd -Office Referral

  15. Severe Clause • Any student who uses excessive profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent to the office IMMEDIATELY.

  17. Entering the Classroom • Please enter the room quietly • Have a seat • Take out your materials • Review the agenda • Begin bell work assignment

  18. When You are Tardy • Enter quietly • Excused: Place the excuse on my desk • Unexcused: Sign tardy/no ID log on the front table • Have a seat and take out your materials

  19. Getting your Attention I will: • Stand in front of the class • Raise my hand or do a call and response • Wait for everyone to be quiet • Begin speaking

  20. Turning In Your Work • All work to be graded must include your name, date, class period, and description of assignment • I am not good at handwriting analysis • If a paper is turned in without the requested information it will not be graded thereby resulting in a grade of 0.

  22. *Pink SlipsThis is for students who do not have the assigned homework • Fill it out • Sign and date it • Turn in with the homework papers

  25. What do I do next activities? • Work on unfinished study guide assignment • Review chapter notes • Read ahead in current chapter of study

  26. Scheduled Check Out • Please let me know as you enter the classroom. • I will be at the door • Quietly raise your hand to get my attention • Pack your materials and leave at the scheduled time

  27. Turning in Papers • Pass all papers to the person in front of you • When the papers reach the front of the row pass them to the left but do not pass to the left until you receive one from your right • I will collect the final stack

  28. Classroom Discussions • PLEASE participate • I want to hear what you have to say • Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion • Raise your hand and wait until you are recognized. Do not blurt out

  29. Moving Around the Room • You must ask permission unless its to sharpen your pencil • Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency

  30. Permission to Leave Class • Because of the limited amount of class time permission will not be granted to the restroom, lockers, ect… • Please handle your business before class • In emergency cases please raise your hand and wait for me to acknowledge you.

  31. Class Dismissal • The teacher dismisses you, not the bell • Do not start packing up prior to the bell • Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with: “ Have A Good Day”

  32. “Special” ProceduresThese will be introduced on an “as needed” • Library/Media Center • Special guests • Progress Reports • Working Cooperatively • Fire Drill • Intercom Announcements • Assemblies • Substitute Teacher

  33. Remember… • I will offer you the best education that is within my power to give It is up to you to show up prepared and ready to receive it. Have An AWESOME Year!!!!!
