He has researched and pioneered the integration of acoustic ecology and sensory urbanism with urban planning and urban design in the United States. His research interests include examining the role of the soundscape in understanding, managing, planning, and designing cities and public spaces. Additionally, his research interests include exploring the impacts of inequitable noise codes on communities of color and low-income communities. Kenya is a strong champion for social and environmental justice and is currently engaged with numerous organizations throughout the United States.
