Opening School Procedures • Parent Contract- Signature page • Welcome letter from the principal • After Care- If your parents cannot pick you up after school, you can sign up for after care where there will be homework help, sports, a game room, arts and crafts, etc. • School year at a Glance calendar • Video and Publication form • Uniform Policy • Cell Phone Policy • Ids

  4. Absences • After you have been absent 5 times in a semester , you will need a doctor’s note. • If you have 5 unexcused absences in a semester OR 10 unexcused absences in a year, we may be able to withhold your final grade • Students will get a failing grade for any work not turned in for unexcused absences • Absent Notification Form must be turned in within three days of coming back to school (can be found in the Mater Website)

  5. Tardies • School begins promptly at 7:30 am and students should be sitting in their seats awaiting instruction when the bell rings • Students who arrive between 7:30-7:35 will be admitted to the classroom and marked unexcused tardy • 1-3 unexcused tardy- Warning • 4-5 unexcused tardy- School detention • 6 or more unexcused tardy- Referral • The number of unexcused tardies is reset every nine weeks • Students arriving between 7:35-8:20 will report to the Tardy Center in the Cafeteria • Students arriving after 8:20 will report to the Attendance Office • May not enter my classroom after 7:35 without a pass • After more than 5 excused tardies- you will need a doctor’s note.

You Got in Trouble?! • Detentions are every Monday and Thursday from 2:35- 3:45 pm • If you miss your detention, the administration gives you another detention. • If you miss both detentions, you get a SATURDAY DETENTION. • If you miss Saturday, you get a Referral. Referrals are very bad and go on your school record.

Classroom Rules • I will be in my seat by the bell and prepared for class. • I will complete all assignments on time. • I will keep hands and feet to myself. • I will respect the opinions and views of the teacher and other students. • I will not eat food, chew gum, or groom myself in class. • I will always do my best!

  9. What if the rules are broken? • Verbal Warning • Check Mark(s) on Discipline Chart • Notify parent/guardian • Detention • Referral (given if you have received 2 or more detentions from me) *I have a discipline chart. After two strikes the parent gets notified. Once the child reaches the “D” column on the chart, he/she is given a detention with a phone call home. • *Detentions are served every Monday and Thursday after school in the auditorium.

  10. Discipline Chart • If I have to call you to get your attention because you are not paying attention you will get marked on the discipline chart • This Discipline chart will determine your conduct grade at the end of each quarter.

  11. Who’s turn is it to talk? • We will all have the opportunity to talk. • To ask or question or say something, raise your hand and wait to be called upon. • When it is your turn, we will all listen. • When it is my turn, we will all listen. • When I raise my hand please freeze, keep eyes on me, and be ready for instructions. I will have something to say.

Supplies Needed: The following supplies must be brought to class everyday unless otherwise instructed: • 5 subject spiral notebook (at least 180 pages) which will be used for notes, vocabulary, and bell ringers. • 2 #2 pencils • loose leaf paper • duo-tang folder with Springboard lessons (4 are needed, 1 per 9 weeks, 1 red, 1 blue, 1 green, 1 yellow) • 1 highlighter • 1 expo dry erase marker • 1 red pen. ** Students MUST have access to the Internet after school hours to complete the iXL Learning program. The school has a computer lab available before and after school, as well as, the media center where students can work. 

  13. When you enter the room everyday: **If you have a Question or need to talk to me about something…write me a sticky note, leave it on your desk and I will pick it up after the bell ringer activity. • Please enter quietly • Have a seat in your assigned seat. • Take out your materials • Review the agenda • Begin bell ringer assignment • When complete, please sit quietly and wait for the next set of instructions to be given.

  14. If you are late: • Please enter quietly • If you have a note, please place it on my desk. If you do not, please see me after class. • Sit in your assigned seat • Take out your materials and wait for the my instructions. **You will be issued a detention after two unexcused tardies.

  15. During a class discussion: • PLEASE participate • I want to hear what you have to say • Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion • If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later or post it in the “parking lot.”

  16. At the end of every class: • Please do not pack your stuff until I have instructed you to do so. • Make sure you clean up around your desk. • Throw any paper or garbage out as you leave the room. • I dismiss you, not the bell!!

  17. Bathroom Use • You may NOT use the restroom in the first 15 minutes of class or the last 15 minutes of class. • You have 5 minutes before and after class, in the morning, during lunch, and after school to use the restroom. • Bathrooms are for emergencies ONLY. • If you want water, you may bring a water bottle to my classroom.

  18. How will you be graded? Several methods of assessments will be given such as notebook check, quizzes, exams, projects, class work, home learning, iXL mastered skills, and participation. Students are expected to complete all assignments within the given time period. Please be aware that incompletion of an assignment will result in a letter grade “Z”, which is equivalent to an “F”. A = 100 - 90% B = 89 - 80% C = 79 - 70% D = 69 - 60% F = 59 - 0% *All assignments that are done in pen or are incomplete will automatically receive at least a one letter grade deduction. Tests: 25% Quizzes: 15% Class Work: 35% Home Learning: 25%

Assignments and Home Learning • You will have homework every day. • Homework is due the following class unless noted otherwise. • HOMEWORK IS MANDATORY! • I will not accept any late work. • Exception : Excused absences. If you have an excused absence you have one week to make up your work. • Extra Credit : I will give extra credit assignments at my discretion

  20. “Ms. Chaoui, I didn’t do my homework.” It is your responsibility to write down your home learning everyday! I do not give extra credit! If you do your work you won’t need it. Late work will not be accepted.

  21. Paper Heading: All your assignments should be headed a certain way: In the center, you must write the title of the assignment and page number. If you are absent: Attendance is mandatory.  If you are absent, it is your responsibility to submit an Absence Notification Form (ANF) to the attendance office within three days upon your return to school.  Once the ANF is excused, you will have the same amount of days you missed to complete and turn in any missed assignments.  I will not provide any missed assignment without an excusable ANF, which in turn, you will receive a letter grade “Z”.
