  2. To show my learning from this weeks collaboration, readings and online resources, I have chosen to present my notes from the week into a slideshow.

  3. 21st Century Learning • Is: • Personalised – focuses on student power – you chose what, when, where etc. • Integrated – focuses on development of technical and generic skills – communication, teamwork, problem solving. • Innovate – focuses on theory/practice integration – practice assignments provides opportunities to be creative. • Meaningful- focuses on building understanding across core learning areas and focuses on competency

  4. Pre-Microcomputer era • 1950’s – 1970’s • 1950 first computer used for learning • 1970 computer- assisted instruction • Late 1970- ‘computer literacy’ emerges Andrew Molnar (1978) warns children who are not computer literate will be greatly disadvantaged in learning and job prospects.

  5. Microcomputer era • 1970’s-1990’s • 1977 first microcomputer (desktop systems) enter U.S. schools • 1993 WWW is born and teachers enter the information super-highway • 1995- virtual schooling begins

Post – Microcomputer era • 2000 and beyond • Mobile technologies create ubiquitous access • 2005- social networking begins to gain popularity • 2007- kindle eBook was released • 2010 – Ipad released • 2013- conference theme at international ELearning is ‘We-Learning” :Content, community and collaboration

  7. BYOD & BYOS’s • BYOD – (Bring your own device) Smartphones, tablet, laptop etc. • BYOS – (Bring your own software) cloud storage, dropbox etc. • BYOD/S may change the way we learn and engage with learning materials and peers and improve overall productivity

  8. A pedagogy is the study of being a teacher and the process of teaching. Digital pedagogy is the willingness to use digital technologies effectively and understand why they should be used

Technology is a tool for assisting teacher and students • Teachers assume the role of co-collaborator or Emoderator • Current generation of students are labelled ‘digital natives’ • Most teachers are labelled digital immigrants • Teachers need a digital pedagogy – study of how to teach using digital technologies. • Teachers need to understand how to use technology effectively and learning outcomes they seek

  10. There is a constant challenge of refining teaching and learning techniques • Students are digitally expectant • Parents, employees and the wider community expect education to produce technologically fluent students

  11. Summary of Work Sample • For my work sample I have presented my notes taken from week 1 readings and collaboration sessions. I have then transferred my written notes into Microsoft PowerPoint and presented this as a slideshow. • PowerPoint is a software program to enhance your oral presentation and to keep the audience focused on your subject. It operates like an old-fashioned slide show, but uses technology in the form of computers and digital projectors rather than a slide projector of old. • Microsoft PowerPoint is bundled with other applications (such as Word and Publisher) in the Microsoft Office suite. • Many different Office packages can be can be purchased directly from the Microsoft website: http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/store/ , however many new computers and laptops come with the office system already installed.

  12. Basic steps for creating a slideshow in Microsoft PowerPoint • Open up the PowerPoint program on your computer. • Type in your title and subtitle on the new slide. The program tells you exactly where. • Press CTRL + M to get a new slide. You will have a list of slide types come up, chose which one suites your work best. • Type your info on one slide and repeats these steps until you have all of your info in your PowerPoint. • You will now have a blank background on your PowerPoint. Click on any place where there is no text with the right button on your mouse. A small menu will come up. Scroll down in the menu until you get to get to Slide Background, to make your own background, or Slide Design for a preset background. • To view your slideshow select the slideshow tab on the toolbar and chose your playing options.

  13. Reflection of Work Sample • This work sample demonstrates how I am cognitively and emotionally involved in understanding how technology is impacting in my life and the world. Inspired by Pigaet and the Constructivist theorists, the theory of Constructionist learning holds that we do our most effective learning by participation, that is, learning through doing. The learning theory explains how knowledge is constructed in us when information comes into contact with existing knowledge that had been developed by experiences. The theory of constructionist learning values on the creation of objects, which have a relevance in the real world. A constructionist approach sees the teacher in the role of facilitator, and is more student and peer-led (Howell, 2012). • Using the PowerPoint program to present my notes as a work sample slideshow has been a creative experience which has resulted in a digital artefact. This type of experience is an example of Constructionist learning, in which I have created an authentic digital object. Using Microsoft PowerPoint is a very easy way to produce slideshows and has allowed me to creatively reproduce my notes in a way that I can connect my learning to previous experiences. • PowerPoint and other presentation software's can be effective learning tools when used well in the classroom. PowerPoint can capture the students' attention and can help keep them interested. It enables students to construct creative presentations for their projects and assignmentsand may also be a valuable tool in helping students present their notes from a class , In the way that I have here.
