  1. Bienvenue! Welcome! Mme Dutton 2006 Français1, 2, 3, et 4

  2. Bonjour!!!! Je m’appelle Madame Dutton. Je suis professeur de la langue française à Hampshire High School. Je suis très contente d’être ici avec vous ! Je voudrais vous souhaiter, «Bienvenue à la classe de français !!!» • A little about me… • As an undergraduate, I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French with the emphasis in Foreign Language Education and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Sciences. I am certified to teach many subjects. • While receiving my undergraduate degrees I studied abroad in Avignon, France. • I also have a Masters Degree in Education. • I have teaching experience in French, Social Studies and English. • I have used my French language skills in the business world. I worked for a couple of years for a company that had manufacturing in Québec. • I am married and have two sons.

  3. My Style of Teaching: • Immersion: target language/French is used as much as possible. Students are always able to ask me any questions in English. I do encourage them to use French. • While teaching, I use a lot of nonverbal cues. This helps students to understand. I also use a lot of cognates at first-words that sound similar in both French and English. Ex: Répetez = Repeat • English- when teaching any new grammar point to ensure understanding. Le Louvre, Paris First Quarter Focus: Review and increasing confidence in speaking *2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students: I am assessing their ability and actual level.

  4. Keys to success: L’Arc de Triomphe, Paris • Come to class prepared. Supplies: binder with 5 tab dividers and paper/folder specifically for this class, and pen/pencil. Occasionally, students will be asked to bring markers to class for group work/projects. • Respect everyone in class. • Participate! Try!!! • Don’t use online translators!!! • Turn in work on time. • Study a little bit every night. Practice like they are learning a new musical instrument. Use flashcards, reread notes, practice saying things out loud, visit my site where I have a list of sites to visit for practicing and learning, etc…

  5. Grades: • All grades go into one category. Tests and large projects will have larger point values and impact their grades more than homework. • Larger projects will drop a letter grade for each day they are late. • I accept late homework. All homework is not collected. We go over it in class and should be used as a study tool. • Final exams make up 15% of overall grade. • Participation is expected and assessed once a week on a day that is unknown to the students. Full credit is given unless students choose to not answer/discuss.

  6. Additional tools that can help when learning French: GoodFrench/English dictionary-available as an app. 601 French Verbs-available as an app. Chaine5 du Monde-All French television station-you might already have access to it, check your cable listing. The Discovering French website has wonderful resources! For 3rd and 4th Year Students: Sept Jours Sur La Planète: This is an app that sends you three current news stories in French. They are short and good for an intermediate level student. They give a vocab list, the written transcript and the actual video of the broadcast. Great for building vocabulary and confidence. News in Slow French:Website great for intermediate students
