  2. Intravenous fluid types • 1. Crystalloids; • Normal saline (0.9% NaCl), Dextrose 5 %, Hartman’s solution (Na lactate) • 2.Colloids; • Dextran, Gelatin • 3.Blood / blood products; • Whole blood, Fresh frozen plasma

  3. Effect of adding isotonic, hypotonic & hypertonic solutions

  4. Cerebral edema/ Hypertonic sol.

  5. Treatment of cerebral edema; • Mannitol0.25 gm/kg body weight/4-6hr • Hypertonic saline solution; 2,3,7.5,10 &23% • Diuretics (Furosemide+ mannitol) • Corticosteroids
