  2. Rule 6 • Use a comma before and, or, or but when it joins simple sentences into a compound sentence. • Ex. I have a lot of grading to do over the weekend, and I have to throw a baby shower as well.

  3. Your Turn! • Sunday I will grade papers and I will clean my house. • I still need more printer paper but I don’t care if it is white or colored.

  4. Rule 7 • Use a comma after the salutation of a friendly letter and after the closing of both a friendly letter and a business letter. • Examples- Dear Dad, Your friend, Yours truly,

  5. Your Turn! • Dear Dad I love you so much! Love always Lauren

  6. Rule 8 • Use a comma to prevent misreading. • Ex. Instead of one, two friends visited Phillis.

  7. Your Turn! • We ate grandma. • Instead of half all of the cake was eaten.
