Baptism and You

Acts 2:41-42

Acts 2:41-42 41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

  • Personal Allegiance to the Person of Christ

  • Personal Faith

  • 1. In Christ for Salvation.

  • Romans 6:4

Romans 6:4 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father,

even so we also should walk in newness of life.

B. Willingness to Obey: John 14:15; Matthew 28:19-20

John 14:15

15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.

Matthew 28:19-20

19 Go thereforeandmake disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen

C. We Confess Christ Before Men: Matthew 10:32

Matthew 10:32

32“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.

D. Burial of the Old Man: Romans 6:4

Romans 6:4

4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father,

even so we also should walk in newness of life..

E. Complete Surrender to Christ: Galatians 2:20

Galatians 2:20

20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;

and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

F. This is Our Wedding Ceremony:

2. A Personal Commitment to the Church

  • Church Membership is Important:

  • I Corinthians 12:18-27

  • Ephesians 1:22

1 Corinthians 12:18-27

18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.

19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be?

20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.

21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”

22 No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary.

23 And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty,

24 but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it,

25 that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another.

26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

Ephesians 1:22

22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church,

B. We Are Members of a Family

I Corinthians 10:1-2

Romans 6:3-4

Acts 2:38

1 Corinthians 10:1-2

10 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea,

2 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

Romans 6:3-4

3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father,

even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Acts 2:8

8 And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?
