  1. Welcome to 5th Grade! 2019-2020

  2. 5th grade Team

  3. Classroom Expectations - Be respectful, be responsible, & be engaged! • Use of MobyMax.com & Math iXL– Tools to help practice concepts learned • Homework expectations – Will be no more than 60 minutes per night. This will include daily reading time, math facts practice time, preparation for tests/quizzes, and additional practice and/or projects as needed. • Parents and Planners – Planners are a communication tool. Please check your child’s planner each night and initial it. • Visitors - All visitors must sign in at the office. Popping into the classroom is disruptive to the flow of instruction. If you need to bring something for your child, please take it to the office and they will get it to us. To avoid children needing to have a forgotten lunch delivered, consider putting $6.00 on your child’s lunch account that can be used for an emergency or a forgotten lunch.

  4. Conferences – Please sign-up using the link on your teacher’s webpage. • Communication • Newsletters (5th Grade Monthly) • Emails – up to 24 hours to respond • Thursday Folders • Grading/ParentVUE • LCPS use of this has been expanded. Parents are encouraged to activate their account if they have not already done so. No paper copies of report cards will go home anymore. • Earning 4s will be rare – they signify mastery of content AND going above and beyond by answering extension questions. Earning 3s ARE GOOD!  We are using a standards based system, and all the papers you see come home will have numbers on them as the grade. However, there are letter grades on the report card, which are sourced from the number grades for each assignment. • Allergies (info in Parent Handbook)

  5. Medication – Continued from last year – no Tylenol in the clinic! Anyone wishing for the nurse to give their child Tylenol for headache, pain, etc. must complete the Authorization for Medication Administration form and bring in their own bottle of medicine to leave with Mrs Clegg. • Sick Days - Email and/or call for current day, not future absences • Email ALL your child’s teachers • Front office 571-252-2891 or CSP-ABSENTEE@lcps.org • Make-up work is given for ill students when they return to school. If you want to have your child’s work the day they are absent, please contact the office or your child’s teachers to make this request by 8am. Per our school protocol, we do not provide work prior to a trip/vacation. Instead, students should expect to receive their missed work when they return to school. Students have one day per each day missed to make up missed work. Please know that we will not hunt your child down for make-up work. They need to show initiative in returning what has been provided to them. • Volunteer opportunities – please email your child’s teacher to share your interest!

  6. Field Trips • Class parties - Winter Party and Valentine’s Day • End of Year Celebration • Information and paperwork – please visit the tables in the back

  9. Personalized Learning • Approach that utilizes student interests, strengths, and needs. • Students learn through various learning activities, which may or may not include the use of technology • Differentiated learning options to include choices for students • Frequent opportunities for student collaboration
