Arcane (adj): Obscure, secret, known by only a few • The professor is an expert of arcane and random facts. • Ascertain (v): To perceive, to learn • With a bit of research, the student ascertained that some plants can live for weeks without water. • Aspersion (n): a curse, expression of ill-will • The rival team cast aspersions and nasty looks toward the other team. • Attribute: 1. (v) to assign credit, 2. (n) a trait • 1. He attributes his success to his parents’ encouraging words and support. • 2. Among the beetle’s most peculiar attributes is its thorny protruding eyes. • Aversion (n): a particular dislike for something • Because he’s from Hawaii, Ben has an aversion to autumn, winter, and cold climates in general.

Beguile (v): to trick, deceive • The thief beguiled his partners into surrendering all of their money to him. 8. Bequeath (v): to pass on, to give • John’s father bequeathed him a very old pocket watched that had been passed down to all the men in his family upon getting married. 9. Berate (v): to scold vehemently • The angry boss berated the employee for stealing paperclips from the supply closet. 10. Beseech (v): to beg, plead, implore • The servant beseeched the king for food to feed his family.
