  2. Queen Elizabeth • Christopher Columbus, sponsored by Queen Elizabeth to make a voyage to India • Set out West to reach East but the Columbus led expedition landed in the Bahamas • Columbus was set to discover new cities and get gold and resources

  3. What the Europeans Brought • Unfamiliar to the America’s the Europeans brought pigs • They were essential to the Europeans • However, over time evolved into what we know as the Wild Hog today

  4. The Mustang • As well as the pigs, came along the graceful beasts called horses • Changed life in America forever

  5. Demise • Along with disease and the killing off of American Indians, the Spainards destructed the Americans • One way they did so was the impact of the pigs • The pigs ate all the corn and crops planted by the Indians causing them to starve to death

  6. Smallpox • Smallpox destroys the Americans • The spread of the disease was what was so harmful • The sick, spread the disease sometimes through the scabs left in the blankets they lay in

  7. Syphillis • Once spread back to Europe the Europeans thought it was karma, a payback for their sins committed in the Americas

  8. Jamestown • First settlement by the British once they took over Europe as the Superpower • Settled once they finally brought along women • Prospered as the exploited the natural benefits of the American landscape

  9. Resources • Along with the vast amount of Deforestation, the most deforesting ever, came a ample supply of fish • The rivers were described as having more fish than water • Settlers exhausted their supply of fish and proved to have dramatic impact • Overfishing causes: Slower reproduction rate, Changes in population and the selective pressures reduce

  10. The Exchange • As the Europeans gained a new land, as well as its resources, the Americas provided Europeans with hide, sugar, tobacco, the turkey and the potato • Potato was arguably most significant American export because of its ability to grow underground: therefore enduring war, and fires • Potato was most important in Ireland, served as their main crop
