  4. How can hormones affect you • Hormones play a large role during puberty. They are the cause of many of the body’s physical changes during puberty. Hormones will cause your body shape to change, breasts to grow, hair to develop and periods to begin. Hormones are also to blame for pimples and acne if you experience any, since the oil glands in your skin become more active during puberty. Love them or hate them, hormones will be the cause of many of the changes as you pass from childhood through adolescence. • As well as being the cause of many of the physical changes to your body, hormones and emotions are very connected. They can send your emotions into overdrive. You may be feeling on top of the world one day but lousy the next, and you won’t be able to figure out why. Don’t worry – it’s normal to be confused by the effects your hormones are having on you. Girls start to experience a mix of emotions when their hormones kick in at puberty, while guys get lots of physical changes in their bodies. It is important to maintain good nutrition so that you can avoid hormonal imbalance and mood swings. • The more you can understand how hormones can affect your body, mind and emotions, the better you’ll be able to cope with whatever hormones throw your way. Just remember that you’re still your amazing self. Try to see the up side of things and you’ll discover more about yourself and all the great things you can achieve in your life. And just remember, puberty doesn’t last forever!

  5. Female hygiene • Making the different changes from being a girl to being a woman brings with it a whole lotta more new responsibilities. One of the biggest changes that will happen to you is puberty. Some parts of your body will re-shape and grow to be more womanly – like there hips which go curvy and there breasts which get larger. You might also notice hair starting to sprout under your arms and in your pelvic area. With all these things going on ‘below the belt’ you might start to worry about strange new smells coming from your body? just use deodorant.
