  1. Reduce Aeroplane Use By Daniel McElroy (Fraser Stubbs, Tom Nugent)

  2. Reducing aeroplane use • To reduce aeroplanes one idea would be to replace some aeroplane journeys with building tunnels that a high speed train will run through. These trains could be electrically powered so there is no fuel cost and not as much CO2 will be produced so it will be a lot environmentally safer and it will be a cleaner source of travel.

  3. Examples of some train lines • A transatlantic tunnel is speculated to be built between London and New York. The train is said to be able to reach speeds of 310 to 5,000 mph. The First Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge is also an example of a train linking two countries. This can also reduce the use of aeroplanes. • http://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Transatlantic _tunnel

  4. Continued…. • Also Between Russia and Beijing there is the rail track called the Trans Siberian Railway which goes from St. Petersburg to Beijing! • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Siberian_Railway • More railway tracks can and should be built linking major countries together such as one going from china to Japan or Australia. Also a railway linking Africa to South America for example.

  5. How to reduce plane use • Businesses should stop taking flights to things such as conferences instead they should link by video link. Also cargo shouldn’t be transported by aeroplanes but instead use more conventional methods such as cargo ships!

  6. Continued… • Aeroplanes could also be reduced if there where less commercial flights each day this also means that the flights will be full very time so the fuel won’t be wasted Also planes could use a lot cleaner fuels! • http://www.nasa.gov/centers/glenn/about/fs10grc.html

  7. Why my method is better than others! • I believe reducing aeroplanes is better than other ways of lowering carbon emissions as hundreds of planes are flown across the world every day burning lots of fuels which has a massive impact the Earth’s atmosphere whereas the methods will reduce Carbon Dioxide I believe that if we carry out are method it would be the most effective and will lower carbon emissions by a huge amount! So reducing aeroplanes would reduce massive amounts of carbon emissions

  8. Advantages and Disadvantages • An advantage of lowering aeroplane use would be that carbon dioxide emissions will decrease so it will slow down global warming as less carbon dioxide will be produced each day but a disadvantage would be that people will still want to travel to aeroplanes as the public will not be used to the change of not using aeroplane. People will want to use aeroplanes as they are quicker than other methods. Also if goods travel across the world it will take a lot longer for them to travel across the world. So if the goods where foods they would go out of date before they reach there destination.

  9. Scientists say….. • Also a MIT-led team have designed an aeroplane using 70% less fuel! http://www.sciencedaily.com /releases/2010/05/100517162834.htm • http://thetechjournal.com/tech-news/new-aircraft-design-from-mit-could-reduce-fuel-usage-by-70.xhtml

  10. Continued…. • Cars could be fitted with a contraption that condensed the CO2 and H20 and held it on-board the car for disposal at a later stage. This could also be equipped for planes! • We could also reduce the fuel consumption used www.wattsantenna.com/articles/FUEL_CONSUMPTION.pdf

  11. Continued…. • The analysis, by atmospheric scientists at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, also shows that in the Arctic, aircraft vapour trails produced 15–20% of warming. • http://www.nature.com/news/2009/091221/full/news.2009.1157.html

  12. Why are info may be unreliable! The information that I have found my not be reliable because: • The websites such as Wikipedia my not come from a reliable source and/or may have been changed • The information may not be up to date so things could have changed • If the information is from only 1 source it could be untrue so you should look for more than 1 source.
