  4. History • Above sea level during the Ice age • Submerged as the ice melted • Colonists traverse waters to get to land • After settling, fishing and whaling starts • 12th National Marine Sanctuary • First proposal in 1982

  6. Biodiversity • Ocean currents rise and deposit nutrients • Allows phytoplankton to thrive • Sunken Ships provide habbitat • Roughly 50 ships lay within the sanctuary • Over 500 species of marine life • Shellfish, birds, mammals, fish, turtles
