  4. the climate is moderate Grassland climate • the rainfall is light(10-30 inches) • There are blizzards and twisters (tornadoes)

  5. Grassland climate • temperature is very hot in the summer and up to 113 degrees F • very cold in the winter and -49 below zero degrees F

  6. Animals in the grassland An animal in the grasslands is different than an animal in the forest An elephant has big ears to help lose heat Wolves are pack hunters, or group hunters and they have sharp teeth and claws for defense Pronghorn Antelope have strong curved horns to fight predators. Kangaroos have strong long legs to jump high Llamas have long shaggy coats. A zebra has stripes to blend in.

  7. Burrowing owls have camouflage to help blend in and they burrow to nest • A tawny eagle has good eyesight so they can see the smaller animals they hunt from high in the air. • Falcons go down very fast when they see their prey • Smaller birds migrate to the moister areas during the hot summer

  8. Plants in the grasslands The trees in the grasslands have thick bark so they can’t burn as easily If the plants get burnt, the roots don’t burn so the plants can re-grow Coneflower can grow up to six feet if it is in moist soil. Trees grow near water. Roots grow near the top of the soil so they can get more water.
