  4. FE– Electric Force • k- Coulomb’s law constant. In air, the value is 9 x 109 Nm2/ C2. • q1and q2– charges. Measured in Coulombs (C). • r- distance between the charges. • NOTE the similarities to the equation for Universal Gravitation.

  6. Electric vs. Gravitational Force • A Hydrogen atom consists of an electron moving about a proton at an avg distance of 0.53 x 10-10 m. Find the electric and gravitational forces acting between the two particles.
