Connected Math Program 3 • Aligned with Common Core • Helps students with problem solving • Promotes deeper understanding of concepts • Promotes learning by doing, not by watching • New Standardized test = reading, writing, comprehending, and explaining • Makes math a more concrete subject to grasp, relates it to real life

  4. Typical Day • Homework- check answer keys, check with groups, check with teacher • Launch • Explore (The Problem) • Summary

Grading (Total Points) Homework • Graded on a scale from 0-3 • 3 = All work shown, all questions fully answered (not just the answer) • 2 = All questions answered, some work shown (“a little something missing”) • 1= some questions answered, some work shown (“a little something done”) • 0 = nothing done

  6. Group Work • ON TASK • ACTIVE PARTICIPATION • RESPECT FOR OTHERS • EXCELLENT BEHAVIOR Each individual student will receive a “group grade.” This grade is based on how the individual student contributes to the group activity. Grades range from 3-2-1-0. Not always an everyday grade

  7. Projects, Tests, Quizzes • Unit Projects: At the end of each unit, will be explained in detail when administered • Quizzes: Individual, partner, notebook • Taken at the end of a chapter or during • Tests: at the end of each book, points vary • Extra Credit

  8. Extra Help • Available morning, at the end of the day, during lunch, or study hall. • Please come see me AS SOON AS student is having trouble • New morning pass policy

  9. Genesis • Updated every couple of days to a week • Tests and quizzes will be up on Genesis within the week, but all students need to have taken the assessment in order for the students to get them back

  10. My Website • Homework is written on my calendar • Summary answer keys are uploaded • Study guide documents and answer keys • Homework answer keys will be uploaded

  11. Absences • Students responsible for getting missed work • If going to be absent for multiple days, please let me know 3 days in advance • Have to make up the homework and show me if its completed in order to get credit

  17. Example Questions Last Year: Find the value of x. This year: No; regular pentagons cannot be used to tile a floor. Since the angle sum of a regular pentagon is 540 degrees, each interior angle is 540 ÷ 5 = 108, which is not a factor of 360. Thus, copies of a 108 degree angle will not fit around a point.
