  2. Facts About Water Pollution • Pollution means to make foul or unclean; dirty. • Although we need water, people pollute it anyway. • Two types of water pollution are point & non-point sources.

  3. Facts About Water Pollution Cont. • Point source: harmful substances are emitted into any body of water. • Non-Point source: delivers pollutants indirectly through environmental changes. • Water that can be polluted is rivers, lakes, & oceans.

  4. Causes Of Water Pollution • Sewage & fertilizers which contain nutrients such as nitrates & phosphates. • Excess nutrients cause the growth of algae which uses up all of the available oxygen.
