  1. Total HealthNovember 1, 2011 Noninfectious Disease

  2. “And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [Right up to the time of His return], developing [ that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.” Philippians 1:6

  3. Grace teaches you to say, “No!” • “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.” Titus 2: 11-12

  4. Lecto Divina Meditating on Scripture • Remember to really think about this verse this week; • Let your meditations turn into prayers, talking with God; • Ask God to reveal and show you special things about it; • Write down what you think He may be telling you about this verse.

  5. In Class Exam • Will be given on November 15 during class. It is the class before the Thanksgiving break. • On December 6 and December 13 the last two class before Christmas break we will be holding CPR classes. Cost is $20. That class fee will be due on Nov 15.

  6. The Cause of Noninfectious Disease • Degeneration: A lowering of effective power, vitality, or essential quality to a worsened kind or state; to pass from a higher to a lower type or condition.

  7. Physical and Spiritual Degeneration • The human body is the most wonderful creation of all living things, however it is not without weaknesses. • No matter how hard you try to produce a perfect body through physical and mental training, the inner workings of the body are imperfect. • Why???

  8. The Original Sin • God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden, for if they did eat of it “you shall surely die.” (see Genesis 2: 16-17) • When they disobeyed God and ate the fruit, they sinned against Him. • That is when sin entered the world and began the process of spiritual and physical degeneration.

  9. As a result of Sin…. • Adam and Eve’s relationship with God changed as did their mental and physical conditions. • They did not fall over and die physically when they ate the fruit, but the spiritual and physical degeneration process began then.

  10. What was created for man in the beginning…. • And was meant to be a perfect living situation in the garden, now became imperfect when they sinned. • Adam and Eve’s inner spirits died and so affected all of mankind.

  11. One Man “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.” Romans 5:19

  12. It took Jesus Christ To come to earth and die to restore man’s spiritual state. You now have the opportunity for your spiritual defenses to be in order here, just as they are with physical illnesses and diseases.

  13. Keep an attitude of Faith and the belief in God’s word gives strength and even physical healing when the circumstances seem too much to bear.

  14. Scriptures to Stand On “So will My Word be which goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11 NASV

  15. Ephesians 6:10-18 says: “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11: Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12: For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

  16. 13: Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14: Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15: having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

  17. 16: ABOVE ALL, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17: And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18: praying alwayswith all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.

  18. John 1:1-5 Amp 1: In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. 2: He was present originally with God. 3: All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. 4: In Him was life, and the Life was the Light of men. 5: And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it. [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it.]

  19. Scriptures to Stand On “So will My Word be which goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11 NASV

  20. Noninfectious Disease • Are noncommunicable (not caused by germs). • Believed to be degenerative diseases because the body’s tissues break down and do not grow or function properly.

  21. Noninfectious diseases • Medical Science says that noninfectious disease is caused by: • Heredity • Environment • Lifestyle

  22. Although the symptoms of a noninfectious disease may show up suddenly, the disease itself may have been developing over a long period of time. • Most NID are called chronic because these illnesses can last a long time. • Prevention is very important in fighting degenerative diseases.

  23. Regeneration • God made the human body to heal itself, to regenerate. Your body wants to take care of itself and with your help you can keep it functioning efficiently.

  24. Heredity (Genetic Diseases) • Genetic disorders and birth defects are two causes of infant diseases. • A Genetic disorder is a disease or condition caused primarily by a defect or defects in the inherited, genetic material within a person’s genes. • These disorders cannot be prevented. • Genetic disorders that are evident at birth are called congenital.

  25. Many genetic disorders do not show up until many years after birth. • For example a heart defect that a doctor can detect from birth is congenital, where some forms of muscular dystrophy do not show up until years later.

  26. Birth Defects • Are abnormalities obvious at birth or detected early in infancy. Birth defects are called congenital and consist of both minor and major abnormalities. • A birthmark is a simple birth defect. Spina bifida (a failure of the spinal column to close completely) is a serious defect.

  27. Although there is no cure for genetic disorders and birth defects, children as well as adults can receive therapy, surgery and counseling to help deal with their limitations. • Some birth defects can be helped by performing surgery on the fetus before it is born.

  28. Environment • Doctors have found that some people are born with a predisposition (tendency) to certain illness, but it takes something from the environment or lifestyle to trigger the disease. • Heart disease, epilepsy, diabetes, cancer and arthritis are only a few examples.

  29. The world is a physically and spiritually toxic place to live. It is full of poisons that are harmful and destructive to your physical, mental and spiritual state of health. • It is important for you to be alert for spiritual as well as physical poisons.

  30. Lifestyle Diseases • Are cause by your health habits. They results in poor choices and do not show up until much later in life. It is much harder to reverse the damage done. • Tobacco, alcohol, drugs, sedentary lifestyle are only a few poor choices many people make that contribute to diseases.

  31. Risk Factors • Are traits or habits that raise someone’s chances of getting a disease. This is one reason why knowing your family history is important to understanding your health. • You can reduce your risk of developing lifestyle diseases by learning what good health habits are and doing them.

  32. Of the 10 leading causes of death in the United States, seven are noninfectious diseases. All seven are directly or indirectly affected by how you choose to live.

  33. Number of deaths for leading causes of death • Heart disease: 616,067 • Cancer: 562,875 • Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 135,952 • Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 127,924 • Accidents (unintentional injuries): 123,706 • Alzheimer's disease: 74,632 • Diabetes: 71,382 • Influenza and Pneumonia: 52,717 • Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 46,448 • Septicemia: 34,828
