She was awarded certificates for good behavior in 1st grade and for "lavori donneschi", or “women's work", the next year.

Adolescence • In 1883 she entered a secondary school called Regia Scuola Tecnica Michelangelo Buonarroti, where she studied Italian, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, accounting, history, geography, and sciences. • In 1892,Maria received her ‘diploma di licenza’ for botany, zoology and experimental physics at the University of Rome.

  4. Early career • In 1896, Maria was the first woman to become a medical doctor. • From 1896 to 1901, Montessori worked with and researched children experiencing some form of mental retardation, illness, or disability. At this time, that when she invented the Montessori Method. Unfortunately, the Government did not accept it by then. • While working with children, she made the first ‘Casa dei Bambini’ or ‘Children's House’ I love the ‘Casa dei Bambini’!

  5. Marriage (nearly) • As Maria was in USA, she met a man and they fell in love with each other. • A tragedy happened, on the wedding day. As Maria walked up the stairs of her house a man bashed in her and so she started hating men for the rest of her life.

  6. Famous Maria • As Ms. Montessori became famous, she was invited to lecture in the United States of America, Netherlands and other countries in Europe. Even in Asia!

  7. Death • Maria Montessori died in Noorwijk, Netherlands in 1952. • Since her death an interest in Dr. Montessori's methods have continued to spread throughout the world. • Her message was always to turn one's attention to the child, to "follow the child".  It is because of this basic principle, and the observation guidelines left by her, that Dr. Montessori's ideas will never become useless.

  8. Without her • It is very difficult to think what would be the current education systems without her immense contributions

  9. THANK YOU!
