  2. gurgling Making a noise like bubbling water. The bubbling pot is making a gurgling sound.

  3. trickling Like a liquid that is falling or flowing drop by drop. The water is slowly trickling from the pipe.

  4. numb Having no feeling; not able to feel anything in some part of the body. The man is blowing on his numb hands.

  5. gushing Pouring out suddenly in large amounts. The bubbling water is gushing over Niagara Falls into the river.

  6. flood To cover with water. Our town had a horrible flood after the heavy rainfall.

  7. rumbling Making heavy, deep, rolling sounds like thunder. The stampeding bison were rumbling through the plain.

  8. windmill A tall structure with sails on poles or “arms”, that stick out from the top and spin around using the power of the wind. Compare and contrast these windmills.

  9. dike A thick wall built to hold back water. This enormous dike separates salt water from fresh water.

  10. hero A person who does brave or important things to help others. We honor the Navajo Code Talkers and firefighters for their courageous acts. They are our heroes.

  11. echo A sound that seems to be repeated because it is thrown back from far away. The flutes’ echo is heard throughout the Grand Canyon.
