  3. Cascade Tutoring Program • Year 1 • One high school & one middle school • Teen parent program & elementary school • Year 2 • Two high schools & two middle schools • Teen parent program, two elementary schools, and head start

  4. Cascade Tutoring Program • Focus on Level 1 & 2 secondary readers • Teach reading strategies • Select appropriate books • Create lessons • Pair with reading buddies • Use reading strategies to work with reading buddies

  5. Cascade Tutoring Program • Total number of tutors: 50 • 70.8% made learning gains on FCAT • Increased the number scoring 300 or better on FCAT from 6 to 24 students (12.5% to 48%)

  6. Collegiate High School • Students begin in 10th grade to complete high school diploma & AA degree • Strong partnership with Brevard Community College (BCC) • BCC Center for Service Learning

  7. Collegiate High School • Center for Service Learning instructor meets with each Collegiate High School (ColHS) site • Encourage enrollment in Service Learning elective course & fourth credit options

  9. NBCT Leadership Cadre • Increase Capacity for Service Learning • Increase the number of trainers in the district • Award Mini-Grants to eligible teachers

  10. NBCT Leadership Cadre • Leadership Cadre of 10 teachers • Develop plan for district • Create / Conduct trainings • Online Service Learning Course • Service Learning 101 one-day workshop • Collect data on the progress • Review Mini-Grant applications

  11. NBCT Leadership Cadre • Service Learning 101 Training • 22 additional teachers trained as SL 101 Trainers • Conduct at least three SL 101 trainings in 2007-2008 • Eligible for $500 mini-grants

  12. NBCT Leadership Cadre • Year 1: • 10 members of Cadre • Created/Conducted SL 101 training for 22 teachers • Trained 16 teachers in online course • Awarded mini-grants • Five - $500 • Three - $100
