  2. Today’s plan • Greeting • Warm-up / Practice Quiz • Puzzle Wrap-up • Lab • Homework / Questions • Clean-up

  3. Practice Quiz • Draw a rectangle that is 3” tall and 4” wide.Check with your protractor that it has 90° angles. • Compute the area of your rectangle. • With your compass and straightedge only, bisect one of its angles. • Using only yourcompass and straightedge, bisect two sides of your rectangle, making a rectangle that is both half as wide and half as tall as the original rectangle. (Your two rectangles should share a vertex.) • Does the bisector from step 3 intersect a corner of the rectangle for step 4?

  4. An Approximate Trisection(Maurice d’Ocagne, 1934) • Instructions: • Draw a 72° angle. Label the vertex O. • Draw a circle centered at O. • Let A and B be the points where the circle meets O. • Extend line OB away from the angle to intersect the circle at a second point; label this point C. • Bisect CO, and let D be the midpoint of CO. • Draw segment AB, bisect it, and let E be the point where the bisecting line meets the circle. • Draw line DE.
