  1. The following are the main points to look for when assessing the head of the budgerigar seen from the front. Shape of head viewed from the front A: Correct B: Narrow frontal C: The neck is visible, the mask is split and the width between shoulders is too little.

  2. Shape of head viewed from the back A: Correct B: Too narrow C: The neck is visible

  3. Width of head between the eyes The headskull defines the width

  4. Feathers adjacent to cere A: Ideal B: Too narrow C: No space

  5. Type of feather just above the cere You can have a combination of these 1:Narrow and short 2:Narrow and long 3:Broad and short 4:Broad and long 5:Fine texture (yellow) 6:Coarse texture (buff) or something in between combined with different density of down. To model a beautiful head you must be able to combine these characteristics.

  6. Feather direction just above the cere It takes, besides a good feather texture, a correct feather direction to model an ideal head frontal above the cere.

  7. Length of mask above cere A: Ideal. B: Far too short.

  8. Length of mask under cere A: Ideal. B: Far too short. (No space for spots).

  9. Width of mask above cere Width of mask at cere Should not be mistaken for the width between the eyes.

  10. Width of mask under cere You cant' have width of mask under the cere on a bird with small shoulder width.

  11. Cleanness of mask Ugly - isnt' it?

  12. Size and shape of spots A: Too big in proportion to the mask. B: Uneven in size and shapes.
