In what ways are our superstitions and beliefs in the supernatural different to Chinese people? • The following is an example to help with your Tangjia survey project • It is not specifically about your survey topic, but one that s similar • As with previous examples, it is not always complete or of a high standard • Some details about this ‘similar’ survey: • Topic: How different are children and adults? • Students from Year 3 and 4 were interviewed, face-to-face, by Year 8 students • Their parents were asked to complete the survey via email

Survey Sampling • All children in Years 3 and 4 at ZIS were surveyed • 17 out of 54 possible parents were surveyed • The survey questions ‘How different are the beliefs children and adults’ is not specific about ZIS children and ZIS parents – asks about all children and all adults • How random was the selection of respondents • Children • Adults • How representative, then was this survey for • Children • Adults

Analysis and interpretation of the entire survey’s results • I won’t provide SAMPLE information on this, but here is my suggestion: • Firstly, choose 1 or 2 other questions and compare and analyze the responses from Tangjia and Year • See the next page for how to ‘Compare and Analyse’ • Next, try and find a connection between the answer to one question and the answer to another • For example, look at the age of the people who responded to your question – do you see any patterns • You could try looking at Gender too • Describe the pattern/connection, and analyse it (what does it mean?)

  17. How to ‘Comapre and analyse’ Compare: State the measurement between 2 or more things State the size of the difference between them Describe the difference (or similarity) Analyse 4. What does this difference (or similarity) mean?

  18. Example – ‘Compare and Analyse’ • For example, I will use the Mean from my question (you wouldn’t include the blue writing) • Compare: 1. State the measurement between 2 or more things • The Mean for Children is 2.2, for Adults it is 3.8 2. State the size of the difference between them • This is a difference of 1.6 3. Describethe difference (or similarity) • Given there is only a possible range of 4, this a big difference • Analyse 4. What does this difference (or similarity) mean? • An average of 3 would indicate ‘Maybe Agree’ Anything below that indicates an average answer of ‘Agree’, and anything above that shows an average answer of ‘Disagree’. The difference in Mean shows that, on average, children believe in magic and that adults don’t.

  19. Conclusion Make about 4-7 sentences that summarise the aim of the survey, what it found out, any major problems with the sampling/collection/questions, and an answer to the main question.
