  6. Spectacular awaits... • This June, Walk the Plank create their most ambitious project to date – The Return of Colmcille. A centrepiece to the first ever UK City of Culture in Derry~Londonderry, this two day spectacular will see us work with London 2012 Opening Ceremony writer Frank Cottrell Boyce and hundreds of local participants, to celebrate the return of the iconic patron saint, Colmcille who founded the city. • We welcome Colmcille back to his city, to his people, and to the remarkable tales that he’s missed whilst he was away. Expect storytelling on a grand scale, as processions, music, performance, and more flood the streets for this once in a lifetime weekend.

Participation Looking to engage 500 – 1000 Participants of all ages from across the City and surrounding regions to: • Contribute stories referencing the themes of the event. • Take on a role within the parade. • Be part of the soundtrack in one of the Choirs (in association with The Music Promise) Another 18,000 expected to join the celebrations over the two days with many thousands more following the story online and via media. Timings & Locations • Friday 7th June: • 7.30pm, Arrival of ‘Colmcille Currach’ Quayside & Guildhall Square • Saturday 8th June • 2pm, What’s in the Box? • Guildhall Square • 2pm – 5pm, • Performance hubs and satellite locations across the city inc Guildhall Sq, Ebrington Sq, Gasyard, Pump St, Long Tower Church & The Railway Museum. • 9pm, People’s Procession, • A defined route, viewing areas on the embankment for audiences. • Also opportunities to see procession from Harbour Square, Strand Road & Queens Quay. • 10.30pm, Showdown on the Foyle, Audiences view from Queens Quay

Footfall • High Footfall expected: • Embankment, Queens Quay and Guildhall Sq. • Along procession route from 9pm: • Harbour Sq, Strand Road, Queens Quay • 10.30 onwards – Embankment & Strand Road. • Visitor Estimates: • Friday: 4,000 – 8,000 • Saturday: Free flow from 2pm onwards so hard to estimate. • Saturday evening: Anticipating up to 18,000 for the procession and showdown events. • DCC estimated 13,000 attended the New Year’s Eve show at the Embankment.

Visitor Profile • Predominantly attract young families during the day • More varied groups and individuals by the evening including older families • PR and Marketing has focused on: • Local Derry~Londonderry residents and the surrounding area • Residents who have a friend or family member participating in the events • Visitors in a one hour driving distance of city - Northern Ireland. • Visitors from the Republic of Ireland • Scottish diaspora and media • Visitors from the rest of the United Kingdom • Media from across the UK and Republic of Ireland. • Some key groups: • Culture seekers wanting to experience a cutting edge cultural event • People already engaged in attending arts events across Northern Ireland • Families – wanting to attend events in their area and who hold pride in civic events (Women aged between 25 – 44 with children)
