  2. What is Fishing? • Many different concepts of fishing • Recreational catching of a fish • Fishing as a sport; sport fishing • Fishing involves a person using a rod to help in the capture of a fish and then releasing the fish back into the body of water it came from

  3. Fishing by Younger Generations • Fishing can be an easy activity • Good for all ages • So why is it that younger generations fish less? • More effort is needed to get younger generations motivated to fish

  4. Fishing by Younger Generations • Youth are not fishing as much as in past years • Decline since 1995 • Why? http://www.fish.state.pa.us/promo/initiatives/jrlicense/00junior.htm

  5. Fishing In Urban Areas • Urban areas like the city of Philadelphia • Not a common activity • Youth are involved in more active sports • More developed areas have less opportunity

  6. Need For Education • Proper techniques are not known • May have the right equipment but do not know what to do with it • Looking in the wrong area for a certain species of fish • Beneficial to both youth and adults

  7. Need For A Fishing Event • Education based fishing • Able to learn how to fish hands on • To get younger generations involved in the activity • Instill knowledge in younger generations

  9. Circle of Learning • Teaching youth teaches adults • Youth teach their friends • Youth hold on to their knowledge as the mature and teach their own children

  10. In Conclusion • Fishing is catching and releasing • A noticeable decline in fishing by youth • Fishing earlier in life insures fishing as an adult • Youth in urban areas have less opportunity to fish

  11. In Conclusion • Youth get to learn by doing • Proper ways to fish are learned • Receive life-long knowledge of fishing
