  1. TransCAD Displaying and Editing Data

  2. Displaying and Editing Data • You can use the Info tool to display the data that go with a map feature, or you can display the data in tabular form, using dataviews. Dataviews let you arrange the columns and rows of information any way you like and customize the appearance of the data. • You can also create formula fields to display calculated values, and compute statistics for records shown in a dataview.

  3. See Information on a Single Map Feature

  4. See Information on Several Map Features Hold down Shift key to add more and hold down Ctrl to remove data. Click the right mouse button for Print.

  5. Displaying Data in a Dataview • Each row is called a record, each column is called a field. • If the name of a field contains spaces or other special characters, TransCAD puts square brackets around it in the dataview. • Some fields in a dataview may include additional information, such as data source information. If there is additional information about a field in a dataview, positioning the cursor over the field heading displays a pop-up window that displays the information.

  19. Editing and Updating Data • When you change a value in a dataview, the change is stored immediately in the geographic file or database. You do not need to save the dataview to save changes to your data. • Remember: Changing a value in a dataview actually changes the source file. Saving a dataview only the way the data are arranged and presented, not the values contained in particular columns and rows.

  20. Editing Data in a Dataview • Clink or Double-click on the cell containing the data you want to edit then make change.

  21. Fill a Range of Cells or a Column with Data

  22. Aggregate • You can fill in records with the aggregate data from another layer. For example, you could fill in fields for a city boundary layer with the number of bus stops or the total street mileage within each city. • You can use this only if the dataview contains data for a map layer. To use this method, you must choose to fill a single column in the dataview.
