  1. Excel Unit 2 Computer Technology Timpview High School

  2. Simple Math Calculations REMEMBER all formulas start with an equal sign (=) SymbolExample Multiply * =B3*C5 Divide / =B3/C5 Add + =B3+C5 Subtract – =B3-C5 Order of Operations: 1) Parentheses 2)* / 3)+ –

  3. Cell References/Address • Always use cell addresses when computing cell information! • Relative Reference – cell reference in formula changes as it is copied relative to the new cell • Absolute Reference – cell reference in formula does not change – must add $ (ex. $D$12)

  4. Using AutoSum Feature • Used to quickly add a group of numbers • Put cursor in cell for answer • Click AutoSum button • Select range to add and press Enter

  5. Number Styles • Comma/Number – (ex. 1,000) • Accounting/Currency – (ex. $1,000) • Percent – (ex. 0.2235 to 22.35%) • Date – Changes format as desired March 21, 2009 or 3/21/09 (Right click – select Format Cells…)

  6. Steps to Copy Cell Formulas • Using the fill handle • Select cell with formula • Click and drag fill handle

  7. Insert and Delete Rows • Select entire row by clicking on the row number • Right click and select Insert/Delete *Excel inserts rowsabove.

  8. Adjust Column Width to Specific Size • Select entire column by clicking on the column letter • Right click and select Column Width • Enter desired width

  9. Math Worksheet For example, if a problem said: Add cells B5 through D5 You would use AutoSum because you always use AutoSum when totaling a range—and the word through indicates a range Or if a problem said: Multiply A4 and B10 then subtract G9 You enter =A4*B10-G9 in the cell

  10. Math Worksheet Complete the worksheet on page 23 of your folder by writing the equation on the line next to the problem given. Those examples on the previous slide would look like this: 1. B5 through D5 Use AutoSum 2. Multiply A4 and B10 then subtract G9 =A4*B10-G9

  11. Print with Formulas 1. Save 2. Ctrl ~ 3. Landscape 4. Page Layout/Scale to Fit/select 1 page width AND Height 5. Print Preview 6. Print 7. Close without saving
