So, what is it and why do I care? • Metadata is essential to 21st century commerce for all product types. • For effective selling, provide information (metadata) to fully support: • Product description • User discovery, selection, and purchase • Business and commerce needs • Here’s the must-have data to support these needs. • Metadata for content description (Title, Author Summary, Subjects, etc.) • Metadata for item description (Format, Number of items, Run time, etc.) • Metadata for commerce (Price, On-Sale Date, Territorial Rights, etc.) • Identifier(s) (ISBN, EAN, etc.) • And, if you want your product to stand out in the marketplace, include: • Evaluative metadata (Reviews, Awards, etc.) • Author information (Author biographies, Author Awards, etc.) • Any other information that adds value or supports search
