Introduction • The 12GeV upgrade requires extensive modifications to the spreader and recombiner regions of the machine • These are the most congested regions in the beam transport system • Goal to reuse as much of the existing hardware as possible • Complicated by incomplete documentation of girders/bracketry • The 12GeV 2008 layouts never progressed beyond the rough 2D songsheet level

Introduction – cont’d Option B Layouts: • Established symmetry between spreader/recombiner • Reduces layout design effort • Fewer unique dipole bracket designs • Step height ratios are consistent between S/R • Allows consistent quad layout between S/R • Include new septa layout(Tief layout) in the east spreader • Rotates several existing girders to “fix” element sequence (BPM-Quad-Correctors) – Ops request • Quads positioned based on step height ratios • Requires no change to matching section quad girder layouts • Significant effort has been made to gather and model as-built S/R information

Beam Transport S/R Layouts – East Spreader June 2008 12GeV Configuration 12GeV Option B Configuration Highlights… • Replaced 2m dipole in Hall D line with three 1m dipole magnets • Rotated 3S03 girder to put BPM upbeam of quad • Added BPM in 7 line, IPM7S03A per I&C’s CR 08-040 • Incorporated the Tiefenback septa layout • Quadrupoles match requirements set by Alex • Layout requires only three girders be rebuilt and minor mods to three others

Beam Transport S/R Layouts – East Recombiner June 2008 12GeV Configuration 12GeV Option B Configuration Highlights… • Rotated 1, 3, 5, & 7 line girders in the “step” to put BPM upbeam of the quad (exceptions: 3R08 & 7R08) • Added BPM in line 7, IPM7R07A per I&C’s CR 08-040 • Quadrupoles match requirements set by Alex • Layout requires only two girders to be rebuilt and minor mods to two others

Beam Transport S/R Layouts – Transport Recombiner June 2008 12GeV Configuration 12GeV Option B Configuration Highlights… • Added vertical correctors at 6T09, 8T07, & 8T09 to meet 12GeV BdL specs • New correctors required small shifts in the 6 & 8 line quads relative to the data transmitted to Alex… preparing request to CASA to evaluate alternate AT quad layout for use in all west S/Rs • Quadrupoles match requirements set by Alex • Layout requires minor mods to eight girders in the “step”

Status/Summary • Still expect small changes to the S/R layouts • Design efforts are focused on items not likely to be impacted by layout changes • Will hold-off on the design of the vertical support stands until layout has “totally frozen after feedback from this review” • Dipole & girder support arm locations laid in to the 95% level… still refining a few areas • Bracket designs ~80% complete • We have nearly completed the new and modified quad girder designs and associated detail drawings • New and modified dipole vacuum chambers designs are ~50% complete • Looks like ~50% of the total will be recycled from existing machine • Will begin detailed septa vacuum chamber design this month
