  1. Ready For Battle Ephesians 6:10-17 1/6/12

  2. Big Idea: To stop the arrows of Satan you must hide behind the shield of faith.

  3. “We walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Cor. 5:7)

  4. I. The arrows of Satan are many! (vs. 16b)

  5. “Difficulty is behind, fear is before Though he’s got on the hill, the lions roar. A Christian man is never long at ease When one fright’s gone, another doth him seize.” -John Bunyan- Pilgrim’s Progress, p. 46

  6. A. The Fiery Arrow Of Doubt B. Friendly Fire In Enemy Hands C. Accusations- (Zech. 3:1-5; Rev. 20:10) Persecution, Illness, Turmoil And Problems E. Temptation

  7. “It is no exaggeration to say that during earthly life multiple thousands of deadly blazing arrows are launched at the Christian warrior. . . but the answer is faith. . . There is battle and confusion all around. The sky rains glowing shafts.

  8. But the Christian raises his shield, and the arrows, though they be a thousand, are caught in victory. His shield is from God and to God, and he raises it, smoking, up God, and the savor is sweet to Heaven.” (Kent Hughes, Ephesians, p. 235, 236)

  9. II. The defense of the Christian is faith. (vs. 16a)

  10. War Time Faith: A simple confidence and dependence upon God to fulfill His promises, see to our well-being, give us strength, always stand with us, and to enable us to win the spiritual battles we face.

  11. Four materials that form the substance of the shield of faith:

  12. Confidence In The Existence And Power Of God, Regardless Of Circumstances Confidence That God Hears And Responds Confidence That God Always Has A Reason For Every Hardship

  13. Lift the Shield of Faith:

  14. “I resolve to believe that God has allowed this and every other circumstance into my life to make me more like Jesus. I choose to believe that much good will come from this because God is working. I believe that God is bringing things of eternal value from my situation.”

  15. “You had better not try to get your theology [what you believe about God and spiritual things] from circumstances. If you do, you will come to the conclusion that God doesn’t love you.” -Warren Wiersbe

  16. Confidence That If God Says It, It’s True

  17. “Yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.” Romans 4:20-21

  18. “I resolve to believe that God is using my difficult situation to make me more like Jesus. I will trust God right now and will rejoice in Him.”
