  1. Week of: 9/3/13-9/6/13 News to Know Rowdy Readers SNACKS: Please remember that all snacks need to be peanut and tree nut free. Make sure that your child brings 1, maybe 2, items for their snack and that they’re healthy. All forgotten snacks or lunches should be brought to the office immediately in the morning. DENTAL CLINIC: Information for a free dental clinic at Holmes went home last week. If you are interested, please send the appropriate forms back ASAP. PTO PARTY: There is a PTO fall Holmes Carnival this Saturday, September 7th from 5:00-7:30. Comes on out for tons of fun! CURRICULUM NIGHT: September 19th is Curriculum Night starting at 6:00. More information to some. HFW (HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS): Students will be introduced to HFWs on nearly a weekly basis. These are words that students are expected to know by sight and not by sounding them out. This week we worked on our first HFW, “I”. BOOKS READ: The class and I read a bunch of books this week. Some that you might want to ask your child about include: Interrupting Chicken, A Visitor for Bear, Animals in the Park: An ABC Book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, You Are Beautiful the Way You Are and This is the Way We Go To School. LETTER and SOUNDS: We are working our way through the alphabet as I check for letter and sound recognition. Ask you child what our actions are for letters A-H. DIBELS Testing Time to Review This year your child will be tested three times using the DIBELS Assessment. They will work 1 on 1 with me on letters and sounds. The first test will be coming up next week on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure your child gets plenty of sleep. In the last two weeks, your child has been exposed to a lot of rules, procedures and expectations. Please take the weekend to talk about some class rules such as: worrying about yourself, hand and feet to yourself and listen to others.
