IMAGE2000 • LANDSAT 7 ETM+ mosaic, v. 2000 (+/-1 year) • Can be downloaded from JRCs website • http://image2000.jrc.it/ • Individual orthorectified scenes in national map projection system • European mosaic • Finnish image mosaic from SYKE • Delivered as DVD • Delivery costs are charged • Yearly licence • E-mail to clc2000@ymparisto.fi

End users • Usage of standard CLC2000 data (25 ha) • Nationwide thematic maps and statistics in EU-reporting (WFD etc.) • Usage of national CLC2000 data (25 m) • Hydrological modeling • runoff ->flood forecasting etc (operative at SYKE) • soil moisture and evapotranspiration modeling • Nutrient loss modeling in agricultural areas and forests • optimization of reduction activities • Planning of buffer zones along water cources • Evaluation of pressures and impacts within drainage basins for Water framework directive • Ancillary data for remote sensing applications (e.g. transmissivity of forests  snow cover mapping) • Modeling of biodiversity together with map data (research phase)

Classes – CORINE2000 main classes • Urban areas (+ immediate surroundings) • Agricultural areas • Forests, h>5m & cc > 30% • Deciduous forest • Coniferous forest • Mixed forest • Open bogs (cc<10%) • Waterbodies • Transitional woodland (sparse forest), h<5m or cc < 30% (contains also un-built urban areas, electric transmission lines, roads) • Interpretation of TM-images using statistics of ETM-images in forest classes

Source of information • Urban environment (site area calculated using SLICES method) • BDR 2003 (points selected according to a construction year 1990 and 2003) • Agricultural land • BasicCD field mask (<1992) and SLICES 1999 • Forests • LANDSAT 5 TM (appr. 1990) and LANDSAT 7 ETM+ (2000) satellite images • Open bogs • CLC2000; NO CHANGE MASK • Waterbodies • CLC2000; NO CHANGE MASK • Transitional woodlands • LANDSAT 5 TM and LANDSAT 7 ETM+ satellite images (approx. 1990 and 2000)

LC changes Processing: • Changed areas from Landsat-images using Autochange-program • The type of change is defined using the existing map data (CLC 1990 & CLC2000) Possible results: • Change matrix 1990-2000 • Propotion of forests (>90%) in 25m, 100m, 250m, 500m, 1000m grids • Changes in built-up areas (=sites) in 250 m grid

Problems in change detection analysis • Rectification and calibration inaccurancies > small changes are not detected, all changes are not real changes • No reference data 1990 > uncertainty of forest interpretation 1990 • Lack of source and age elements of the BasicCD (agricultural areas) 1990 > false changes in agricultural areas 1990-2000 • Shortages in the content of BDR > definition of built-up area • Lack of validation data • Results are preliminary!
