  2. Units are INQUIRY based! YOU and your group identify a problem, figure out how to solve it, and present the solution in an interesting, creative way.

  3. Wait, what? • We’ll give you a broad theme for each unit.

  4. Idea Board • In class, we’ll generate an idea board filled with possible problems YOU identify. • Then, we’ll form a small groups based on the problem you want to solve.

  5. Explain this to me. • Next, we’ll supply you with Articles of the Week that will get you thinking about the unit theme from different perspectives.

  6. Say that again? • Each week, you’ll write a reflection on your Article of the Week and demonstrate your growth in the Unit’s Mastery Standards.

  7. Genius 30 • Once each week, you’ll meet with your group to discuss your findings and your thoughts on solving the problem you’ve identified. • You’ll meet at least THREE times per unit.

  8. At the end… • At the end of the unit, your group has to figure out a way to present your findings CREATIVELY! • Prezi? Tri-fold board? Glogster? Blog? New Twitter hashtag? Video? Podcast? Skit?

  9. Your Authentic Audience! • When you present your problem and solution, members of the community in Murray will come to see what you’ve done! Who is invited? Chamber of Commerce, Murray Ledger, Calloway County Public Library, Local Businesses, Parents!

  10. What’s the point of all this? • Problem Solving – You NEED to know how! • Collaboration – You NEED to practice working together! • Creativity – You NEED to use your creativity to present your findings. • Share – You NEED an authentic audience. You are a GENIUS and others need to see!

  11. I thought this was Language Arts?! • We’re still accountable for mastering reading and writing standards. We’re going to do it CREATIVELY and we hope you’re ready!
