  3. Assumptions of the Plan • 1. University will attain research university (doctoral/research-extensive) status by the end of this decade. • 2. The research infrastructure of the University will require considerable enhancement as a result of Charlotte Research Institute (formerly Charlotte Institute for Technology Innovation) and other programmatic initiatives.
