  1. The movers and shakers of the world(1 Corinthians 1:18-31; Matthew 5:1-12)

  2. The moment of transfiguration Why did Shrek give up his wonderful transfiguration and turned back into his formal being as an ugly monster?

  3. Transfiguration of Jesus • On the mountaintop, Jesus was suddenly transfigured—changed—right in front of his three disciples, Peter, John, and James. • Those greatest heroes , Moses and Elijah in their holy Torah appeared to them and talked with their master Jesus . • In response to Jesus’ transfiguration, Peter suggested to Jesus that they would build three dwellings; one for Jesus, one for Moses, and one for Elijah (v. 4). • He wanted to preserve the glory of Jesus and stay with him in this glorious moment forever.

  4. When we experience something special… • “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” • when we see something fantastic, something beautiful in front of our eyes, we want to keep it forever and not let it go. • The disciples wanted to hold of this ecstatic moment forever. • But God commanded the disciples to “listen” to Jesus, not to preserve him like an antique in a museum. • And the transfigured Jesus didn’t remain on the mountaintop but rushed coming down to the village. • Jesus didn’t go alone to the village; he took all his disciples on his mission journey.

  5. Disciples of God’s kingdom • Real faith must not be apart from our actual life in our communities. • Following Jesus, we Christians are called to seek out the glorious Christ in the world, and as we do so, we must “listen to him” and to follow his way to the world. • Following the way of Jesus Christ, Christianity has also sought for God’s glory in the midst of human society. • That’s why the church has stood in the center of the village or city.

  6. Lenten Journey • The lesson of the transfiguration: we should listen to Jesus and follow his way to the cross. • When the cloud lifted, Jesus the Messiah hit the road again and started a new journey with his disciples in the village, which now we call the Lenten journey. • Since he came back to the village, Jesus had not had such a glorious mountaintop experience any more. • During this season of Lent, let us keep the glory of Christ in our hearts and set out faith’s journey and ministry to the world. Amen.
