    1. Overview of Multi-Task Trebuchet M. T. T.

    2. Multi-Task Trebuchet (MTT) This contest will be the national event for three years beginning in 2006-2007 and ending 2008-2009. That MESA USA National Engineering Design Competition will include: Device Performance Technical Paper Academic Display Oral Presentation Device Performance : Teams will research, design, build, test and compete with a trebuchet designed to meet projectile, counterweight, and size characteristics of the event. The performance of the high school device will be judged in three tasks : (1) Distance: farthest distance thrown of a single projectile (2) Accuracy: nearest position of two projectile impacts to two separate ground level targets (3) Strength: greatest mass of projectiles delivered to the vertical target with two throws *The middle school devices will be judged on the first two tasks only.

    3. Multi-Task Trebuchet (MTT) BONUS: Performance Efficiency – Device performance and design are combined to determine performance efficiency. The performance score is divided by the mass of the device without projectile or counterweight. The team with the greatest efficiency receives full bonus points. Scoring Summary (relative scoring will be used for all performances) Final team rankings will be based on the total score derived by adding all of the task scores. Device Performance 150 points Bonus: Design Efficiency 25 points Technical Paper 100 points Academic Display 100 points Oral Presentation 100 points Total Points 475 points

    4. Multi-Task Trebuchet (MTT) Materials & Design Restrictions Counterweight Details: Must have a maximum mass of 1.5 kg Must be detachable. Must be safe. Factors Limiting Stored Energy: The pivot point of the throwing arm must not be higher than 60 cm from launch pad surface. The throwing end of the rotating arm must touch the ground when the counterweight is removed.

    5. Multi-Task Trebuchet (MTT) Materials & Design Restrictions - 2 Projectile Details: Distance & Accuracy Must have a minimum mass of 40 grams Must be hacky sack or footbag materials Must not harm gymnasium surfaces Strength A single or collection of hacky sacks or footbags Sling Details: A sling must be used. A classic sling pouch or attached to the projectile directly Attached Sling is counted in projectile mass
