  2. The objective of the research was to hear the views of patients and carersabout the impact, if any, that there has been on the healthcare situation in their country, since joining the EU

  3. The survey was completed by people with a chronic medical condition or carers of those with a chronic condition Recruitment via two channels 1 2 The survey was posted on patient websites Contact details provided by patient organisations in each market The survey was conducted online in local language It was live throughout March, April and May 2013

  4. In total 286 people completed the survey from the 15 countries

  5. The results show that access to quality healthcare is a big problem

  6. Waiting times for products and services Access to screening and prevention policies • Availability of products and services - at home and abroad Access to good quality hospitals and HCPs

  7. Patients and carers are worried about the impact that the economic crisis in their country has had on healthcare

The economic crisis has had an impact on healthcare systems and subsequently had an impact on the lives of patients Access to healthcare, with all its elements - hospitals, doctors, infrastructure, medicines etc., is one of the main concerns for patients and carers • New and innovative approaches to increase access and sustainability of the EU healthcare systems should be explored • For example better collaboration, exchange of best practice, quality standards, sustainable pricing etc.
