  1. Administering Civil V8i Select Series 2 Robert Garrett, Bentley Systems Inc. Product Manager

  2. Topics for Today

  3. Also… • We probably want to maintain these files with an eye towards portability into V8i Select Series 3.

  4. The Design Library File • A single source of user resources that is shared by all users • Provides structure, yet allows for exceptions when needed • Allows administrators to create shared resources on a server and distribute them to many users. • In Civil V8i Select Series 3, dgnlib files are used much more extensively.

  5. General Usage of DGNLIB Files • Dimension Styles • Level Definitions and Level Filters • Text Styles • Tools and Tasks

  6. Configuration Variables • MS_DgnLibList – points to libraries which contain standards. • MS_GuiDgnLibList – points to libraries which contain task and tools customization.

  7. Let’s Try It! • Create a DGN Library File • Add some levels • Add some text styles • Add some dimension styles • Review the Results

  8. Seed Files • Data Acquisition in Select Series 2 stores settings in DGN Settings. • Thus a separate seed file for survey is recommended. • This changes in Select Series 3 to make use of DGNLib files. • Civil Geometry formatting settings stored in dgn settings. • These expand in Select Series 3 but will migrate forward.

  9. Let’s Try It! • Review Data Acquisition Settings • Review Civil Formatting Settings

  10. Element Templates • Used to automatically set the active element symbology • Can be assigned to specific tools • Helps ensure specific standards when elements are placed using certain tools • Will become more significant in future Civil Platform releases

  11. Let’s Try It! • Create an element template • Assign to an existing element • Assign symbology only from element template to elements as created • Assign template itself to elements as they are created

  12. Civil Feature Definitions • In Select Series 2, for a civil geometry element, feature definitions control: • Symbology • Auto annotate • Auto export to native • Link to native feature style and thus quantities • Feature Definitions will move forward to Select Series 3, but not backwards from Select Series 3 • In Select Series 3, feature definitions contain more detail and make greater use of element templates

  13. Let’s Try It! • Link to DDB file. • Review and edit feature definition properties. • Review which commands where feature definitions apply.

  14. Customizing the Task Menus • Use cfg variable MS_GUIDGNLIBLIST • DgnLibsdelivered with MicroStation and Civil Products. • Not recommended to edit the delivered DgnLibs • Workspace > Customize or keyin “Customize Dialog” Main Tasks Tasks Tools Workflow

  15. Let’s Try It! • Create some Custom Tasks • Review the Results

  16. Creating Custom Tools • Used to Run a Command, MDL Application, Key-ins, Design File settings, etc. • Can include an element template to assign to elements created with the custom tool. • Civil Geometry tools have “customize” on the dialog.

  17. Let’s Try It! • Create a custom Microstation command with Element Template • Create a Custom Civil Geometry Tool • Add the new tools to the task list

  18. Main Tasks • Top row of tasks for a given workflow • For a given workflow: • Use the default “Main Task” • Or create your own

  19. Let’s Try It! • Create a custom workflow • Create a custom main task list • Match the main task list to the workflow • Review results

  20. Menu Customizations • Can customize: • Top Menu Bar • Context Menu – right click when element is selected • View and Tentative Pop-Up Menus – right click in the view

  21. Let’s Try It! • Custom Menu Items

  22. Customize Civil Accudraw Ordinates • Civil Accudraw comes in the box configured for several commonly used ordinates. • But you can add your own custom systems. • Settings can migrate forward into Select Series 3

  23. Let’s Try It! • Create custom ordinate systems in Civil Accudraw. • Review other settings in Civil Accudraw. • Locate and copy XML settings. • From: C:\Users\Robert.Garrett\AppData\Local\Bentley\PowerGEOPAK\8.11\4w2zX6nbrk7ysvnfli9c-g\ • AccudrawSettings.xml • AccudrawFav.xml • To: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\PowerGEOPAK V8i (SELECTSeries 3)\PowerGEOPAK\CivilPlatform\Defaults
