  3. The main function of the kidneys is to get rid of any unwanted substances from the blood. To do this the kidneys have to choose between what is harmful and what is beneficial.

  4. The kidneys work hard at maintaining an acid-alkaline balance in the blood.

  5. The bladder is about the size of a grapefruit.

  6. The bladder is a holding area for waste liquid before it is released. It has the ability to expand and then shrink, according to the amount of urine passing through.

  7. Diabetes and hypertension can lead to glomerular disease. Diseases of this type cause more cases of  chronic kidney failure than any other cause. Glomerular diseases are those that attack the blood filtering units of the kidneys.
