  3. REMINDER • This is an overview training. It is not intended to replace a careful review of the 2019 CMAS procedures manual or the 2019 Test Administrator Manual. It is your responsibility to review both carefully, in addition to this training!

  5. What’s new? ELA, Math, Science, and Socials studies all under a single dropdown (CMAS Spring 2019) in Pearson Access! All CMAS materials returned together after testing, including CSLA Single Math option for MS TTS now has graphic that shows up on student testing ticket

  6. Parent Excusals • Must have a clear policy and procedure for excusals • No negative consequences, including prohibiting student from participating in activity or receiving reward (new) • Don’t encourage parents from opting out

  7. Timeline • Official window: April 8 – 26, 2019 • All elementary and middle school science and social studies administrations must be completed within this window • All school-wide paper-based administrations for math and ELA must be completed within this window • Extended Window (Math/ELA): March 18- April 26 • Online testing only • Early Window: HS Science only • 3 week window may be moved earlier • March 25-April 12 • April 1-April 19

  8. Important Dates • January 7-25: Update student registrations and add accommodations in Pearson • February 1: Online test session set-up begins • Mid-March: Materials arrive to CSI (sent to schools 1 week later) • April 29: Deadline for materials return to CSI • PLEEEEEEEEEEASE RETURN EARLIER!

  13. Scheduling

  14. Unit Testing Times: Grades 3-5

  15. Unit Testing Times: Grades 6-8, HS ELA, Science and Social Studies

  16. Unit Testing Times: Grades 6-8 Math

  17. Guidelines for Breaks • Between units, scheduled breaks may occur • Students may not have access to cell phones during scheduled breaks • During units, short “stand-and-stretch” breaks may be permitted at the discretion of the Test Administrator • Time stops for the unit, but only for up to 3 minutes • If you know you will take the 3 minute break, add the time into the timing box at the beginning

  18. Scheduling Considerations • Test units must be administered to students in consecutive order • All content areas • Includes make-up testing • Excluding make-ups, determine • Whether one content area will be completed before beginning the next, or if testing will alternate between the content areas • How many units will be taken by students per day • All tests must be completed by April 26 • Plan extra days at the end of the window to account for cancellations due to snow or other unexpected closures • Plan time for make-up testing

  19. Scheduling Considerations • Paper-based testing • PBT window does not open until April 8, 2019 • Exception: Three week high school window can open as early as March 25 • A school must administer the same unit to all PBT students within the same day (e.g., all Grade 4 Math Unit I on Tuesday) • Schools must have the grade level appropriate calculator (grades 6-8) if administering math on paper • CBT accommodations should be administered on the paper schedule • Computer-based testing • Math and ELA CBT window can open as early as March 18 • Three week high school window can open as early as March 25 • Elementary and middle school science and social studies CBT window cannot open until April 8 • To the extent possible, all students within the school should be assessed at the same time • If not possible, all students should be assessed within the shortest timeframe practicable • PBT accommodations should be administered on the online schedule

  20. Scheduling Considerations • To the extent possible, a student taking CoAlt in a content area for which the student is participating in a general education class should be assessed at the same time as their peers to avoid missed instruction • Ensure students taking these assessments do not miss instruction from their general education class

  21. Scheduling different grades together (handout) • If the unit testing time and directions are the same, different grades can be administered in the same room • A separate testing environment is needed for: • Paper-based and computer-based (administration SAY directions and materials are different) • ELA and mathematics (unit testing times and administration SAY directions are different) • Directions read aloud in a language other than English • English tests and Spanish accommodated forms • Science/social studies and ELA/math (unit testing times and administration SAY directions are different) • Paper-based science and social studies (materials and administration SAY directions are different) • High school science/social studies and elementary/middle school science/social studies (different unit times) • Math grades 3-5 and math grades 6-8 (different administration SAY directions) • Math grades 6-8 unit 1 and math grades 6-8 units 2 and 3 (different administration SAY directions)

  22. Afternoon Testing • If the school is having technology issues, do not start a unit unless there is enough time left in the day to complete the unit • It is a misadministration for a testing group to start the test and then stop and complete it the next day • This is only allowed for illnesses and unforeseen situations (e.g., school power outage)

  23. After Hours Testing • If a school will test later than 4:30 p.m. • ASAP, email Jessica the name of the school and the name of the individual test session (session name that appears in PAnext) that will test after hours • The test session will need to be granted permission by CDE to test after hours • District/school must “start” the test session first

  26. User Accounts SACs are responsible for creating accounts for other staff members as needed. See page 32 of the 2019 CMAS Procedures Manual for which user roles staff should have.

  27. Check Rosters (CBT and PBT) OR

  28. Transfer Requests (CBT and PBT)

  29. TIP • Please ask your registrars to keep your SIS updated on a daily basis! This is how I know to approve/reject transfer requests from other districts.

  30. Registering new (to CO) students

  31. Removing withdrawn students • 1) If student has transferred to another Colorado school, wait for them to be transferred (aka don’t do anything right now) • 2) If student has left the state, you will code them as Not Tested, Code 03 (withdrew before testing)

  32. Checking PBT registrations • Reports>Organizational Reports>Students & Registrations> Student Test Counts

  33. Accommodations (PBT and CBT) • Setup>Students>Registration>Manage Student Tests • Screen share

  34. Accommodations (PBT and CBT) • Review accommodations webinar. For specific information on accommodations, refer to the State Accommodations Crosswalk and Appendix G of 2019 CMAS Manual. • You MUST train your TAs on how to administer accommodations that they are responsible for. Don’t assume they know how.

  35. Unique Accommodations Requests (UARs) • Deadline was Dec 15 • Schools with approved UARs do not enter the accommodations in Pearson; CDE will enter the accommodations • I will notify schools of which UARs have been approved this week.

  36. Training Site Infrastructure trials (online testing). See handout.

  37. Test Sessions (CBT) • https://support.assessment.pearson.com/display/PAsup/Setup+a+Session • Videos and tutorials on every aspect of session creation

  38. Operational Reports • Reports>Operational Reports>Students & Registrations • Use to check your work in Pearson • Screen Share

  39. Parent Excusals • We will address this later, but DO NOT enter Not Tested Codes prior to/during the test window. If students transfer during testing, the code transfers with the student.

  40. Quizzzzzz

  41. Preparing for Testing

  42. SAC Training • All SACs must complete this training and return the CMAS Security Agreement to me (Jessica).

  43. Staff Training • Everyone involved in CMAS math, ELA, science, and social studies administration must be trained each year • Includes SACs, Test Administrators, Test Examiners, technology personnel, and any other school or district staff involved in administration • SACs are responsible for ensuring that all individuals involved in test administration and/or handling secure materials receive training and sign the CMAS and CoAlt Security Agreement • http://www.cde.state.co.us/assessment/annual_trng_requirements

  44. Training • Comprehensive training must include: • Test Security • Standardized Test Environment • Test Administration • Test Session Management (for appropriate personnel) • Test Administrator Role vs. Teacher Role • Opportunity for personnel to ask questions • CDE has provided a basic PPT that districts may update and use for Test Administrator trainings (on CSI and CDE website) • Schools will need to add school-specific instructions

  45. Who can be a TA? • School and district employees who are trained on this year’s procedures and security • Long term subs may be Test Administrators • Student Teachers are NOT allowed to be the only person in the room or responsible for the administration of the assessment • Student teachers may be an additional person (proctor) in the room during testing

  46. Practice Tests • Student practice resources are available • ePATs for computer-based testing • Paper Practice Items for paper-based testing • Walk through all item types • ePAT Guides include script for adult as well as scoring information such as rubrics and sample student responses • Strongly recommend students are provided with access to practice resources prior to testing • Includes forms with accessibility features and accommodations

  47. Practice Tests • Computer-based practice resources can be accessed through: • TestNav App • Navigate to “Colorado” sign in page and click “Practice Tests” link • PAnext Training Center • Requires login from student testing ticket • Secure practice sessions must be setup in advance

  48. Practice Tests: CDE’s CMAS page https://www.cde.state.co.us/assessment/cmas
