We want to know what the region is trying to achieve • Will investing in this region/project contribute to NZ Inc’s outcomes (the GPS) • Has the region Integrated transport planning, investment decisions and land use planning • How well are its strategic planning documents aligned and implemented? • Do we have investment certainty? • Have you chosen the right mix of transport interventions?

Applying our intervention hierarchy to land use and transport decisions • First get an integrated landuse and transport pattern that stages growth to coincide with available capacity on the network • Second, look at demand management to reduce traffic growth – public transport, walking and cycling etc. • Thirdly, optimise the use of your existing network – road marking, signage, phasing of signals etc • Finally, if all else fails, consider new infrastructure – but match the levels of service provided against affordability.

What is the NLTP? • The National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) allocates funds • to approved organisations for land transport infrastructure and services. • The NZTA is allocated funds from the NLTP for state highway activities as well as other activities that are delivered nationally. • To be included in the NLTP, regional activities (including those • concerning state highways) must be identified in regional • land transport programmes (RLTPs). • We then assess all the eligible activities proposed, prioritising • and programming them according to the available funding
