DO NOT DO • Use too many pronouns (he/she/they) BE SPECIFIC! • Use absolutes “everyone”, “nobody”, etc. • Use “I”, “In my opinion”, “I think”, I believe” • Be clear in your writing • Use your thesis as a road map • Be careful with tenses • Provide evidence to back up your statements • Using quotes will support your opinion or your claim/thesis. • Cite the page at the author & page at end of quote (Hawthorne, 33).
