What is Botany? • Botany is the study of plants, also known as plant science or plant biology. • Today, Botanist study around 400,000 species of living organisms. • Botany is one of the oldest forms of science because plants can be used for edible and medicine purposes. • One of the first botanical garden industries was founded in 1540. • Examples of early botanical works have been found in ancient texts from India dating back to before 1100 BC

  3. How to become a Botanist • You need to take classes such as biology, chemistry, plant pathology, horticulture and agronomy. As well as Math and English. • It’s helpful to complete an internship so you can see what the job is actually like. • It’s mandatory to complete four years of college, a masters degree takes an additional 2 years and a doctorate requires 5 to 6 years.

  4. How much do Botanist make? • An average annual year salary of a botanist is $71,310, which means $34.28 an hour and $5,943 per month. • The top 10 percent earnings of Botanist was $102,300, while the lowest was $38,780.

To be a Botanist you need to really enjoy being outside and have an appreciation for plants, animals and the outdoors. • If we didn’t have plants and animals, we would die out. • “When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money.”
