  2. Daily Language Practice • 1. Another legendary africanamerican cowboy was nicknamed “Bronco Sam.” (1) • 2. Sam was famous for once having rode a longhorn steer down a street through a clothing store and back to camp. (2)

  3. Vocabulary Unit Eight • Study the spelling • Any old piece of paper • Correct and use as a study guide

  4. Please do now… • Select 5 vocabulary words • Use them in sentences

  5. Ex. 1, p. 399 • 1. Done in class • 2. The term simply describes these cowboys on a horse. • 3. They have many responsibilities to their herds of cattle. • 4. The cattle must be kept together in a group. • 5. The herd may be driven to the pasture for grazing.

  6. Ex. 1 continued… • 6. While on a drive, the cattle must be protected from rustlers, or thieves. • 7. Other herds might mix with the cattle. • 8. All cattle are branded by the cattle owner’s unique symbol. • 9. The brand distinguishes one herd from another. • 10. In the United States, people admire these heroes of the West.

  7. Read p. 400 • For ex. 2 • Read the groups of words. • There are five (5) sentences. For those, write sentence. • For the incomplete thoughts, add words to make them a complete sentence. • Draw one line under the subject and two under the verb.
