  5. Recommendation Criteria for Grade 8 to 9: The following criteria are to be used as a guide in determining the placement of students in grade 9. Teachers may use the “override sheets” to justify recommendations outside this criteria.

  6. English • English 9 classes will be non-leveled with an Honors option available for all students. • The mission of Stratford Public Schools is to foster academic and personal excellence through a curriculum designed to challenge all students. To fulfill that mission, all students in the non-leveled (heterogeneously grouped) English 1 course will be offered the option to earn honors distinction and honors credit on their high school transcript.

  7. English Honors Option Open to all students enrolled in English 1. Assignments with higher expectations for the honors option. Honors credit will be given with regular feedback during the course. Analytic rubrics will assess students’ work.

  16. Scheduling Process for 8th Graders • Middle School Counselors conduct a classroom lesson to review the Program of Studies . • Middle School Counselors hold individual conferences with students to review recommendations and elective course selections. • High School registration form is sent home for a parent / guardian signature. • Any questions or concerns please contact your child’s Middle School Counselor.
