  1. Skylight Shades for Energy Savings

  2. Skylight shades solve the problem of getting too much light from your skylights. Skylights are great windows to have in your home because they mimic the sun in bringing light in from above. They allow you to see blue sky, clouds, and stars from the comfort of your home. Sometimes, however, skylights let in too much light.

  3. If you want to limit the amount of light that enters through your skylight, you should consider using skylight shades. Shades allow you to experience the light when you want it, but give you the option of either blocking the light or limiting the amount that comes in. For example, you may find that a skylight makes your kitchen too hot during summer days or that it creates a glare on your television when the sun is a certain height. Rather than getting rid of the skylight, install a skylight shade to solve the problem.

  4. Just like regular shades, skylight shades fit in the window frame and can be opened or closed. If you like the light, but want to cut down on the glare or UV rays, look for sheer shades that can be left closed over the window. These sheer skylight shades will continue to let light in, but it won't be as harsh and it won't fade carpet or furniture. Many skylight shades also reflect radiant heat, which means that your house will stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The shades will help maintain the interior temperature of the house, cutting down on energy costs.

  5. You can easy install skylight shades in your home. You may need to custom order your shade to ensure the proper fit, but this is simple to do. Most are also easy to care for, requiring only a light vacuum every so often to remove dirt and dust. Otherwise, your shades will continue to look great while they offer you light control. Choose between manual and motorized shades. Manual shades have a pull to open and close them, while motorized versions use a control switch and power from a regular outlet. Motorized versions are great if you have a skylight that is hard to reach or if you have mobility issues. Most people will find that manual shades work well for standard skylights too.
