• Find the slope of the line containing (-2,8) and (-4,-3).
• What is the slope and the y-intercept?
• y = -4/5x - 8

Standard Form

STANDARD FORM: Ax + By = C

• no fractions/decimals
• A must be positive

Example:2x – 4y= -7

where A = 2, B = -4, C = -7

To graph from standard form, convert to

slope-intercept form (y = mx + b)

Or…Use shortcuts! (if you memorize them)

Shortcuts:☻ Ax + By = C

By = -Ax + C

Notes

Parallel lines are two lines that never intersect. They have the same slope.

Perpendicular lines are two lines that intersect to form right angles. They have opposite reciprocal slopes.

(example: m = 2/3 and m = -3/2)
