  1. Taking Care of Menstrual Health in Monsoons In the hot and humid weather, you need to be more careful about your menstrual hygiene as increased humidity fosters bacterial growth and infections. Let’s look at some tips that can help prevent period irritation and diseases in the rains. Your menstrual health matters, and due to increased air moisture levels in the rainy season, one is more prone to infections and menstrual problems in the monsoons. As it begins to get hot and humid, vaginal sweating, chafing, itching, etc. all become more common. But you can guard yourself against vaginal infections and trouble by practicing healthy period care tips. 1. A good quality sanitary napkin or menstrual tampons is the primary factor. Try out various sanitary pads or tampon brands and decide on the one that suits you the best. 2. Another menstrual hygiene basic, which is even more critical in monsoons, is changing your pad or tampon frequently. Using the pad for long hours can cause itching and infections in monsoons, thus one should remember to change the product regularly. 3. Keep the vagina clean by washing with warm water. Do not use soap as it disturbs the pH balance making you vulnerable to infections. When cleaning always wipe front to back and not back to front to prevent bacteria from entering your vagina. 4. Do not use synthetic underwear as it causes more sweating and skin chafing. Always wear cotton panties. 5. Talcum powders help prevents sweating but never spray talcum powder on the genitals directly. It will disturb the vaginal pH balance and cause itching. Take some powder on your hand and apply on the skin around your vagina and the inner things. You can even try the cornflower powder. 6. Always wash your hands before and after changing the sanitary product. As tampons are inserted in the vagina, it is even more important to wash hands before using a tampon. Tampon brands usually offer two kinds - with and without an applicator. Some girls find applicator pretty helpful, but some prefer the ones without an applicator. The tampons price difference isn’t significant. Try and choose the one which is more comfortable to use, and make sure that your hands are clean when using a tampon. 2. 7. Use clean panties. Wash and dry your underwear thoroughly before use. 8. Wear loose cotton, comfortable clothes. Cotton absorbs sweat to keep you moist free and also allows for airflow. So during your period days in monsoons go for loose, comfortable wear instead of tight fitted clothes. 9. Discard the soiled napkin well. Wrap in a newspaper or product wrapper before throwing in the bin. Since humidity encourages the growth of bacteria and fungi, it becomes even more essential to have good personal hygiene during period days in monsoons. These simple tips will help to keep you safe against vaginal infections in the rainy days. Along with these tips, remember to have lots of fluids as excessive sweating in monsoons can cause dehydration. So don’t forget to carry your water bottle when stepping out of the house.
